MY WICKED CITY (2018 - present)
PROJECT OVERVIEW
My Wicked City traces the tangled narrative that earned Phenix City, Alabama, my hometown, the infamous moniker, “The Wickedest City in America.” The project weaves archival materials with constructed still and moving images incorporating performance.
This body of work creates an immersive experience centered on a town perpetually in flux between forgotten truths and peculiar myths. My Wicked City seeks to render the emotional and visual impression of growing up in a place where truth is often spoken through clenched teeth. What emerges is a sensibility shaped by my own attempts to navigate the space between myth, memory, and the historical record.
